Matcha instead of coffee: what a month actually looks like.

Most people who go looking for this page are looking at the same clock. The coffee clocks out at 2 p.m., and the day doesn't. Plenty of pages will tell you switching to matcha will change your life. This isn't one of them. I make a matcha supplement for a living, I drink it in place of the first coffee, and the honest version of the switch is more useful than the hyped one — so here it is, plainly.

What we will and won't tell you

We won't tell you what this drink does inside your body, because we don't know and nobody selling you a powder honestly does. What we will tell you is exactly what is in it, in grams: 3g of stone-milled Kagoshima matcha, 3g of lion's mane fruiting body, 2g of cordyceps militaris fruiting body, and 2g of Kagoshima sweet potato — ten grams a morning, 5,000mg of it mushroom fruiting body. Every batch goes to a third-party lab in Japan before it goes to anyone, and those numbers get published on our testing page rather than described in adjectives.

The first week is the honest part

We're not asking anyone to quit coffee. We're asking for the first cup — the one you make before the phone wakes up. That is a much smaller thing to change, and it's the one that sets the shape of the day. What people miss in week one is usually the ritual as much as the drink: the walk to the machine, the warm cup, the pause. That's why we built Nutroko as a three-step morning cup and not a capsule. Whisk a scoop into a splash of hot water, add milk, sweeten if you like. Sixty seconds. The habit slot that coffee occupied stays occupied, and your afternoon coffee is still yours if you want it.

What it tastes like

A proper Kagoshima matcha: grassy, a little sweet, and it takes milk well. If your reference point is café matcha drinks, you're close — ours leans less sweet, because you control what goes in. If your reference point is coffee's bitterness, expect something rounder and greener. Nobody pretends they're the same drink; the question is whether the cup is one you look forward to. That's a taste question, and taste is the one thing we'll happily claim.

Where the mushrooms come in

Nutroko is a mushroom matcha — matcha blended with lion's mane and cordyceps, both whole fruiting body, plus Kagoshima sweet potato. Four ingredients, ten grams a morning, every amount printed on the label. If you want the full breakdown of what's in the pouch and why each ingredient made the cut, that's on the what is mushroom matcha page, and the ingredient-by-ingredient story is on the formula section of our home page.

A fair way to try the switch

Give it a pouch — thirty mornings. Not because thirty is a magic number, but because a week is mostly the adjustment and a month tells you whether the cup earned its place. If it didn't, you'll know honestly, and so will we.

Batch 001 is pre-order only. Hand-packed in Osaki-cho, allocated in reservation order, ships August 2026.
